Emergency Cookie Time!

Did you know that today is National Junk Food day? I have to admit, I didn’t know until I opened my laptop to catch up on the world that I missed while sleeping. As soon as I opened Twitter I was flooded with images of cakes, chips, candy and of course: cookies.

For three seasons of the year you can easily pick me out of a crowd because I’m the guy wearing a cookie monster beanie. How can a ‘grown up’ wear such a hat? Easy. It reminds me of a childhood goal: grow up and eat nothing but cookies all day, every day. Life happens though and I’ll be honest, I seldom get to eat cookies in these adult years. I wear the hat to remind myself of the goal. Maybe someday when I’m passed adult and into geriatric I’ll get to fulfill my lifelong dream of eating nothing but cookies… someday.

Anyways in honor of this most auspicious day (that I didn’t know about), when I can eat cookies by the cart full (because I know about it now), I’ve decided to make my personal favorite cookie of all time: Chocolate Drop Cookies.

Long story short (we need dem cookies) my grandmother used to make these for me on special occasions: birthday, holiday, because I asked… you know, the standard fare.

But enough of my babble. Let’s get to the cookies!

First and foremost, preheat your oven to 350, this doesn’t take long.

Next, we will need:
Cookie Mix1 ¾ cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
½ cup milk
½ cup butter
2 baker’s chocolate cubes

Use your favorite method of melting things (I prefer a small saucepan) to melt both the chocolate and butter together. While those melt, mix all the other ingredients together. Once the butter and chocolate are finished melting, toss those in, too.

Mix until smooth.

Dropping CookiesOnce you’re done with that drop dollops of batter on prepped cookie sheets and pop them into the oven, set a timer for 10 minutes and walk away.

Once the timer goes off, pick a cookie (any cookie) and poke it with a toothpick (you can use a fork if you don’t have a toothpick). Supposing you did everything correctly (and I don’t see a ton of places to make a mistake) the toothpick should pull out of the cookie and remain ‘clean’.

Remove the cookies from the sheet, let them cool. While they cool, your job is to change into comfy clothes because… well… you’re not going to want to stop eating these… ever.
